Ferrero to Acquire U.S. Chocolate Confectionery Manufacturer Fannie May

Following the transaction close, Fannie May will operate as a standalone entity and brand within the Ferrero Group, with support from Ferrero U.S.A., Inc. as needed. Ferrero plans to maintain Fannie May’s plant in Ohio, as well as its distribution centers in Ohio and Illinois. Ferrero will continue to operate a network of Fannie May retail stores, with plans to grow the network over time.

India and China are amongst the four countries projected to have the highest chocolate market growth in the period 2015-2020. Other countries include Mexico and Brazil. India domestic chocolate industry is worth approximately INR 7,000 crores (1.12 billion USD) and is currently growing at a rate of 20% annually, projected to grow by 30% by 2020.

Report: Cocoa Industry reform needed to stop Farmers from left behind

The report estimates that the three biggest cocoa trading and processing companies traded between roughly 50 and 60 per cent of world cocoa production in 2013. In terms of cocoa processing capacities, on average, four transnational corporations controlled more than 60 percent of world cocoa grindings in 2014.
