Africa Call for Proposals: Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition

Project proposals around this general theme should seek to connect research, innovation to the society at large. In particular Research projects that offer solutions and promote innovation are encouraged.

Projects actions should seek to contribute to the transformation of Africa into an innovation led and knowledge based economy with a clear demonstration of involvement of youths and women as game changers in the implementation. Project proposals around this general theme should seek to connect research, innovation to the society at large. In particular Research projects that offer solutions and promote innovation are encouraged. Those projects that have received earlier grants from the AURG (2010, 2012, and 2016) and are close to completion stage are encouraged to apply.
Twinning with projects established through ERAfrica, the ERANET COFUND or the CGIAR and other relevant schemes is encouraged. 
 
Projects actions should also aim to produce and facilitate access to food with higher nutritional value and health benefits for a growing population, while reducing the environmental impact of agriculture and its demand for ecosystem services. Interest in actions listed below will be funded.
 
• Research on improved food value chains so as to deliver and make accessible more nutritionally rich food to consumers with minimal loss of nutritional value, little wastage and a high level of safety
• Research to improve the nutritional value of crops and animal products, through advances in breeding and biotechnological innovation, such as biofortification (improved mineral and vitamin levels in various highly productive crop lines). 
• Research on sustainable and innovative technologies used for food processing, packaging and storage, post-harvest handling, and technologies that add values to agricultural produce and their accessibility will be funded.
