In 2012, the Global Aquaculture Alliance established the Global Aquaculture Innovation Award to recognize individuals and companies finding new solutions to the key challenges facing aquaculture.
This year, GAA is inviting three finalists to its GOAL 2018 conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from Sept. 25 to 27, 2018. The finalists receive an all-expenses-paid trip, including flight and hotel (up to four nights), to Guayaquil and the opportunity to present at the conference, with the winner being selected by the audience in real time. The finalists will also be featured in the Global Aquaculture Advocate magazine.
What’s an aquaculture innovation? Examples include technologies that mitigate the occurrence of animal diseases or parasites, or that reduce or eliminate the use of antibiotics to treat animals; technologies that improve production efficiencies at the hatchery or farm levels while mitigating environmental impact; advances in offshore or land-based recirculation technology; novel feed ingredients; reductions in carbon footprint through improved energy efficiency or regeneration; and social programs designed to improve living and working conditions at the farm or processing levels.
