BANGKOK, 20 July 2017 (NNT)

Thailand and China are discussing the feasibility of positioning Thailand as China's gateway to CLMV countries.

Digital for Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said Chinese authorities from Shenzhen, China, and Thailand have reached a mutual agreement on the development of Thailand as China's gateway into Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) to support China's One Belt One Road policy which promotes regional cooperation and partnerships.

The cooperation will promote the development of Internet of Things studies, the Smart City campaign, and startup businesses to yield economic benefits in both countries, especially by launching study trips to Shenzhen, China which resembles Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor project which is expected to become a digital sister city with Shenzhen in the future.

He said the Shenzhen officials were interested in the development of EEC and Digital Park projects. A visit by top-ranking executives and businessmen of Shenzhen to the EEC project is scheduled for August, while a joint committee will seek to provide maximum benefits to businesses from both countries.
